President's Message

I can't believe it is the last week of school! The Sunset community continues to amaze me with your support and generosity. Thank you to all our wonderful families for another successful year! Thank you to our dedicated PTO board who has worked non-stop to provide fun events and fundraise so that Sunset remains a top-notch school. A huge thank you to our families who volunteered their time to make our PTO events a success. I would also like to acknowledge the Sunset staff who are always willing to help us and make the school a happy place to be. It was so fun to be part of the Halloween Carnival, Talent Show, Movie Nights, Gala, Walkathon, Fun Runners, Family Dinner Nights, Teacher Luncheons, Book Club, Book Exchange and all of the other amazing events that were put on throughout the year. Thank you again!

 

Because of our your generosity, the PTO Board will be able to continue funding programs that we supported this past year: Art and PE for all grades, Reading Specialist, Yard Duty Supervision, Science and Teacher Grants, Choir, and Staff Development just to name a few. 

 

Four PTO Board Members will be leaving us this year. (Thankfully they still have a few years left at Sunset and will all still be around.) Tim Mayhew (Auditor), Danielle Varin (Hospitality), Aubrey Alvis (Store), and Nicolle Dunn (Programs). I cannot say enough about each of these amazing members and how much they have contributed to our school over the years. Thank you!

 

Last week, the PTO membership voted for a new board for the 2018 - 2019 school year. I would like to welcome our six new members: Janice Newton (Ways & Means), Laura Olmscheid-Paden (Programs), Alleyson Winderl (Hospitality - Kinder/TK rep), Kara Rapp (Publicity - Windows), Amy Gile (Website/App), and Cassie Farrell (Facebook). I’m so excited to have so many new faces joining our board! Welcome!

Sunset Garden Spray

In the garden we do our best to use nontoxic materials that are safe for even the students to use. With that in mind, we still get the normal garden pests like everyone does! So we turned to a natural remedy of water, natural soap and essential oils to keep the pests at bay! We use Fels Naptha soap and doTerra Arborvitae, Cederwood, Eycalyptus and Pepperment oils to keep away pests like aphids, earwigs (pincher), slugs, snails and even rodents (opossum, raccoon and squirrels)!

 

For $15 you get your very own bottle to fight off pests in your garden! If you purchased your bottle at back to school night we can REFILL your bottle for $8. So hold onto them! Please email sunsetschoolgarden@gmail.com for more info. Thank you for your support!

 

PTO President's Message

Happy New Year Sunset Families!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun holiday break with family and friends. We have some great events coming up in 2018, so grab your calendar to enter these dates so you don’t miss out on the fun...

 

Sunset’s Twilight Tasting at Page Mill sponsored by Gigi Srour of Gigi Sells Homes will be a fun evening out on Thursday, January 18th. There will be food and vendors with wine tasting fees and a portion of sales coming back to Sunset! 

 
The annual Sunset Talent Show will be held on Friday, February 9th at 6:00 in the MPR.  It promises to be a fun night of entertainment!

 

Kindness week is February 12th - 16th (more info to come)
 
The Sunset Gala, our biggest fundraiser of the year, will be held at the Palm Event Center on March 24th.  Come have a fun night out with friends while raising money for our kids! Be on the look out for information coming home, if it hasn’t already with ways you can help. In order to make this event possible and raise as much money as we can, we will need everyone’s help.  We will need donations for the classroom baskets, silent auction and raffle.   If your classroom does not have a basket coordinator, grab a friend and work on it together.  Without classroom baskets, we will not raise the money needed to provide the programs the PTO currently funds. Last year's Gala and other fundraisers allowed us to provide more chrome books, leveled readers to all grade levels, continue PE for all grades, start our new Art program for TK-5th grades, expand our reading program, fund staff development and provide grants to all teachers, the Science Lab, Library, Choir and Yard Duties. I think we would all love to see these programs continue next year!

Lost and Found

With the cool weather in the morning and warmer afternoons we are collecting a lot of items in the lost and found. Please make sure to check the lost and found for missing sweaters, jackets, lunch boxes and water bottles. Lost and found is located in the MPR next to the valet sign in area. Everything will be donated the last day of every month. 

Field Day 2018

Parent Volunteers Needed!

Dear Parents,   

We’re excited about this year’s field day event!  It is sure to be fun-filled for all of the students.  The big day is scheduled forWednesday, June 6th, 2018. This event will include a variety of fun and exciting games and activities. We will be dividing field day into stations this year and will have each class rotating through the stations.  We will have approximately 16 stations for our students to enjoy. Please be sure to help them have a successful day by making sure they have their tennis shoes, a water bottle, a hat, and have applied sunscreen.

 As you know, to insure the continued success of Sunset’s Field day, we must, as for other events, rely on the outstanding support from our parent/guardian volunteers.
