YOUR CHARACTER REALLY COUNTS! “A person of character is trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring and is a good citizen.” As you go through your week, I want you to try to practice these traits and remember that character counts!
Parking and Valet SafetyPlease utilize the available drop-off valet service. Please note that the outer edges of the parking lot are now marked STAFF parking. Please allow our staff to use these spaces. Please use only the unmarked center spaces for book club, fun runners, and general parking.
Please drive safely!
Keeping kids safe is a
priority at Sunset School.
Safety Tips -In order to keep traffic moving, pull all the way to the end of the line/driveway to the car in front of you or to the last valet. Do not park in the driveway or cross walks. Your car can be towed if left un-attended. Children should wear their seatbelts until the car comes to a complete stop. Children should exit on the right side of the car. Avoid putting backpacks in the trunk. Children should have their backpacks on the floor board in front of them. Drivers and pedestrians should not wear headsets, talk on cell phones or text in order to stay fully aware. When driving on surrounding streets, do not drop your children off in the street. Avoid double parking or parking on street corners of the nearby residential streets such as Kingsport Way. Please do not turn left into the driveway from Frankfurt Way. Please be courteous to the valet student and parent volunteers. The Livermore Police regularly patrols the school areas and will write citations for unsafe driving in a school zone. Those citations can cost between $50-$280.
Please help keep the children of Sunset safe and drive safely! May Principal's MessageSalutations Sunset Families: STAR Testing has begun for grades 2nd-5th. STAR Testing is highly important because student performance on the test is used to calculate our Academic Performance Index (API) score. Currently, the API score for Sunset is 923, the highest in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District. I would like to request your help in promoting our children’s best efforts in testing. Please ensure your child gets enough sleep during testing, and please ensure your child is at school every day on time. STAR Testing will take place from April 30-May 11. We will get the state testing results in the summer. Click here to view the STAR Testing FAQ document. Our students have been learning rigorously, and you will have an opportunity to visit their classrooms during Open House which is scheduled for May 24th from 6:30-7:30 pm. AR GOALSWE DID IT! Important Health ConcernsFROM THE DESK OF YOUR SCHOOL NURSE: We have been seeing an increase in the number of absences due to illness recently. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends some ways you and your family may keep from getting sick at school and at home: Cover your mouth and nosewith a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder; not into your hands. Practice good hand hygieneby washing your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol to clean hands. Stay home if you or your child is sick for at least 24 hours after there is no longer a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine). Stay home for 24 hours after vomiting or diarrhea. Keeping sick students at home means that they keep their viruses to themselves rather than sharing them with others. Let’s have a happy, healthy Spring! Catherine Arthur, MSN, RN, PHN, School Nurse Click HERE for important information from the California Department of Health. Important Reminders
Call In Absences Please remember to call in an absence to the attendance line, (925) 606-5231. Lost and Found The lost and found area in the MPR is filling up. If your child has lost a jacket or lunch box, please take a few minutes to stop by and check the lost and found.
